Ophthalmology Clinic Receptionist

Under direction of Clinic Manager, the Medical Receptionist performs a variety of clerical duties in support of patient care delivery and medical office operations and demonstrates workplace effectiveness to assure communication of Cloudbreak Eye Care’s mission and core values.

Position Summary: 
Under direction of Clinic Manager, the Medical Receptionist performs a variety of clerical duties in support of patient care delivery and medical office operations and demonstrates workplace effectiveness to assure communication of Cloudbreak Eye Care’s mission and core values.

Positions available:

  • Ophthalmology Clinic Receptionist

Responsibilities:

  • Checking in and checking out patients;
  • Answering phones and taking messages;
  • Scheduling appointments according to guidelines;
  • Able to promote and maintain good patient relations and patient confidentiality;
  • Obtaining and confirming patient information for healthcare billing;
  • Operating common business equipment including but not limited to copiers, computers, and fax machines;
  • Maintaining an organized work environment in a fast-paced environment.
  • Consenting patients for medical procedures;
  • Scheduling surgeries;
  • Accurately performing basic patient screening tests;

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent;
  • Minimum one year of medical office experience preferred;
  • Knowledge of medical terminology preferred;

Skills:

  • Excellent patient service skills;
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills;
  • Present a cheerful, friendly and professional image to patients and fellow employees;
  • Proficient computer skills, highly skilled in MS Word, Excel, Outlook;
  • Ability to quickly grasp and adapt to new programs and equipment;
  • Self-motivation to deliver patient service excellence;
  • Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment;
  • Ability to demonstrate attention to detail, consistent initiative and team attitude;
  • Ability to demonstrate critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work unsupervised or with minimal supervision.

This is a full-time permanent position. Salary – commensurate with experience with a standard company benefits package. Applicant may be eligible for an annual salary increase and/or annual bonus, based on performance.

Ophthalmic Assistant/Technician

Performs basic patient care, ophthalmic testing procedures and initial patient examinations as directed by physician or supervisor. Performs clerical functions and assists with basic training of non-certified technicians and students.

Position Summary 
Performs basic patient care, ophthalmic testing procedures and initial patient examinations as directed by physician or supervisor. Performs clerical functions and assists with basic training of non-certified technicians and students.

Position available:

  • Ophthalmic Assistant/Technician

Please note that this position may include some weekend shifts.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Accurately performing patient screening/testing:
    • History, Visual Acuity, Pupil Assessment, Goldmann Applanation, Colour Vision, Instilling drops, etc.
  • Accurately performing diagnostic testing:
    • HVF, FDT, OCT, Anterior OCT, IOL Corneal Topography, etc.
  • Explaining the purpose of each test and demonstrating proactive assessment;
  • Discussing and reviewing cataract surgery options;
  • Communicating with patients regarding follow-up care, pre and post-operative care, testing, possible symptoms, changes in appointment times etc;
  • Efficiently and accurately documenting all pertinent information in patient records (EMR);
  • Maintaining, calibrating and cleaning all equipment used throughout the day;
  • Returning phone calls to patients and other healthcare professionals in a timely manner;
  • Readily scribing for doctor;
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent;
  • 2+ years of previous experience as an ophthalmic assistant/technician
  • Completion of your AAO/COA is an asset;

Skills:

  • Excellent patient service skills with an aptitude to understand the patients’ conditions;
  • Strong computer skills, highly skilled in Microsoft Office with previous EMR experience;
  • Ability to quickly grasp and adapt to new programs and equipment;
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills;
  • Self-motivation to deliver high quality results;
  • Present a cheerful, friendly and professional image to patients and fellow employees;
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment;
  • Ability to demonstrate consistent initiative and a team attitude;
  • Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work unsupervised or with minimal supervision.

This is a full-time permanent position. Salary – commensurate with experience, premium paid for COA, with a standard company benefits package. Applicant may be eligible for an annual salary increase and/or annual bonus, based on performance.

  • Efficiently and accurately documenting all pertinent information in patient records (EMR) during physician examination;
  • History, Visual Acuity, Pupil Assessment, Goldmann Applanation, Colour Vision, Instilling drops, etc.
  • Explaining the purpose of each test and demonstrating proactive assessment;
  • Discussing and reviewing ophthalmic surgery options as offered by the surgeon;
  • Communicating with patients regarding follow-up care, pre and post-operative care, testing, possible symptoms, changes in appointment times etc;

  • Accurately performing basic patient screening and accurate Humphrey Visual Field Testing;
  • Will require simultaneous testing of two patients in adjoining visual field rooms;
  • Explaining the purpose of each test and demonstrating proactive assessment;
  • Efficiently and accurately documenting all pertinent information in patient records (EMR);
  • Maintaining, calibrating and cleaning all equipment used throughout the day;
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent;
  • Previous experience performing visual field testing;

Skills: 

  • Excellent patient service skills with an aptitude to understand the patients’ conditions;
  • Strong computer skills, highly skilled in Microsoft Office with previous EMR experience;
  • Ability to quickly grasp and adapt to new programs and equipment;
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills;
  • Self-motivation to deliver high quality results;
  • Present a cheerful, friendly and professional image to patients and fellow employees;
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment;
  • Ability to demonstrate consistent initiative and a team attitude;

This is a part-time permanent position. Salary – commensurate with experience as well as relevant certification. Applicant may be eligible for advancement, annual salary increase and//or annual bonus, based on performance.
